How much does a membership cost?
Notified Right charges a single fee of $129 CAD plus taxes for a one-year membership to our complete library of 600 Canadian organizations and our online tool to build a customized executor’s checklist.
When does my membership start and how long does it last?
If you are purchasing a membership for yourself it starts immediately and lasts for one year. Gift memberships last for one year from the date the person receiving the gift first opens their account.
What does a Notified Right membership include?
You will receive full access to our entire library of more than 600 organizations across Canada in order to build your customized checklist. The library includes many helpful tips, contact information, forms and the instructions to notify each organization. You can also choose to complete a profile with basic information about yourself and the deceased that is used to auto-populate letter templates to save you even more time
Does Notified Right provide estate planning, financial and legal advice?
No. Notified Right does not provide professional legal or financial advice. The information offered on this website does not replace the professional services you would receive from a lawyer or accountant.
What is different about Notified Right and similar services offered at funeral homes?
Some funeral homes may include notification services with the cost of funeral arrangements, others offer the services for additional fees and some do not provide help in making notifications and account changes. Most funeral homes do provide at least a general checklist, but this is not like the checklist you will build on Notified Right. We have contacted every organization in our library to find out their specific procedures following a death. This means you can build a custom checklist and get started on the notifications without having to do the research yourself.
Does Notified Right update its library on a regular basis?
Yes, Notified Right is dedicated to providing our customers with the most accurate information we can. Our library is regularly updated, however, if you come across any changes or corrections before we do, we would greatly appreciate it if you could let us know. Please Contact Us.
What is Notified Right’s refund policy?
If you purchased a membership but have not used the online tool we are able to provide you a refund within 30 days of purchase. If you have used the services but are unhappy with them please contact us and we will try to improve your experience. If a gift membership was not used within 90 days of purchase we would be happy to provide a refund to the person who purchased it.
Are there any additional fees?
Generally, most organizations do not charge fees to make changes to an account following a death and some may even offer refunds for unused services. If there are any additional fees these are paid by you directly to the organization where you are making the changes.
What are the system requirements?
To use Notified Right’s online tool you will need access to a printer and scanner. You will also need Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or higher. To install a free version, or upgrade your current Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here – Hyperlink to Adobe.
Can I get started before the death has occurred?
No. In general you will need to know the date of death before making any notifications. However, there are things that can be done before a death to make the paperwork easier after. This would include: • Locate the Will and relevant documents • Determine if the person expected to pass is the sole owner of bank accounts or if there are joint accounts with the right of survivorship • Confirm credit cards are joint accounts or if the person expected to pass is the primary cardholder • Discuss with your lawyer or financial planner about having a spouse or beneficiary’s name added to property titles and other assets • Make a list of clubs, memberships, subscriptions and associations that will need to be notified • If someone will continue living in the home contact the utility companies to either have their name added to the account or to transfer the account
Who can use Notified Right?
Anyone is welcome to purchase a gift membership to Notified Right for a friend or family member. The people who will benefit most from our online tool are executors (called liquidators in Québec), or a person appointed by the courts to settle an estate.
Is Notified Right a secure site?
Yes, Notified Right uses an independently verified SSL Certificate to encrypt personal information and the website does not store credit card information.
How does Notified Right protect the deceased’s information?
Identity thieves commonly target those who are recently deceased and we want to help prevent this. We do this in three ways: a. Keeping our site secure by using an independently verified SSL Certificate to encrypt personal information. b. Collecting only limited information about the deceased (name, address and date of death). This information is optional and used only to auto-populate letter templates. c. Helping the executor close credit cards, bank accounts and social media accounts as soon as possible after a death. We also provide instructions for notifying credit reporting agencies and removing the deceased from commercial marketing lists.
What types of organizations are in your library?
Our comprehensive library has details, forms and letter templates for specific organizations for the following categories: Banking & Financial Services, Credit Cards, Federal Government, Home Services, Life & Health Insurance, Loyalty & Rewards Programs, Medical & Care Services, Memberships & Associations, Newspaper and Magazine Subscriptions, Online Services & Social Media, Pensions & Employer, Phone, Internet, Cable & Satellite, Property Insurance, Property Taxes, Provincial Government and Utilities.
I don’t know where to start, can Notified Right help me prioritize the checklist?
Absolutely, your checklist will automatically be prioritized with the time sensitive items categorized at the top of the list.
How do I know which organizations need to be notified?
As the executor is your job to determine which organizations need to be contacted. You may need to go through the deceased’s mail, wallet and documents to figure this out. Notified Right can help by providing an essential checklist of organizations that most Canadians will need to contact.
Do I have to complete all the forms at once?
No, most executors take up to a year to complete their duties in winding down an estate. You can choose to work through your checklist by downloading and printing forms individually as you go, or you can download and print all the required forms and letter templates in a single zip file after compiling the entire checklist. You can also log back into your account any time for up to a year after purchase if there are organizations that were missed.
How long will it take to complete all of the notifications?
Most people are able to complete all of the necessary notifications within a few months of a death. Membership to Notified Right last for one year though so you’ll have lots of time to build your checklist, record which notifications have been completed and track your progress using our online tool.
Will I receive confirmation that a notification or cancellation has been made?
All of our letter templates include a phrase requesting confirmation but we recommend you follow up with each organization to make sure they have completed your request.
I've already started some of the notifications, can Notified Right still help me?
Most executors have between 30 to 50 different organizations that they will need to notify or make changes with. If you’ve already started you know how frustrating and time consuming this process can be. Depending on how many you have left to go you may still find our online tool useful. If you decide to buy a membership to Notified Right you can add the organizations you’ve already completed and check them off as done right away. This will allow you to keep a comprehensive record of your progress in one place.
What options will I have to make the notifications?
Every organization has a different process for making changes to an account following a death. We can advise you what options are available for you to choose from for each one: mail, email, phone, fax, in-person, or online.
Do I have to print the forms and letter templates?
In most cases you will need to download and print the forms and letter templates on your checklist so that you can complete and sign them. After that you will need to either mail them or scan and email them directly to the organization.
What is the difference between an executor, liquidator and other titles used for representatives of estates?
The executor of an estate is called the liquidator of a succession in Québec and both titles refer to a single person or group of people who were appointed by the deceased in his or her will. If the deceased did not have a will, or if the person appointed is not willing or able to act as the executor, then an administrator will be appointed by the probate court. Depending on which province you are in there may be different titles given to this court appointed role.
Can I use Notified Right if I’m not an executor or liquidator?
The people who will benefit most from Notified Right’s online tool are executors (called liquidators in Québec), or a person appointed by the probate court to settle an estate. If you are unsure of your role please contact your family lawyer.
Death Certificate vs. Statement of Death
The Statement of Death is issued by the funeral director and may be proof enough for some of the organizations you need to notify. Many of the organizations, such as banks and insurance companies, however, will require a Death Certificate issued by the provincial government. The fees and wait times for obtaining a Death Certificate vary by province and territory.
Do I need to probate the will?
Probate can be a time consuming and expensive legal process, but it is not always necessary. Each province has its own rules about when probate is required. It is best to speak to your family lawyer to determine if probate will be needed.
Does Notified Right provide service outside of Canada?
No. At this time Notified Right only provides notification services within Canada.
Will Notified Right work in my province or territory?
Our team has researched organizations in every province and territory to make sure we have a comprehensive library for people across Canada, however, our online tool is only in English at this time. Our library may not include listings for all of your local organizations, especially if you live in a smaller city or town. In this case you can include the general item on your checklist and fill in the letter template for this organization type with the specific information you need. The death took place outside of Canada, will Notified Right still be able to help?
Yes, Notified Right can still help with the notifications and account changes that need to be made for Canadian organizations. The Canadian embassy or consulate in the country where the person died can tell you how to obtain a death certificate. You will need this before getting started.
Can I use Notified Right if the deceased was not a Canadian citizen?
If the deceased was living in Canada or has Canadian organizations that need to be notified and you would like help determining the best way to contact those organizations then Notified Right will be a good service for you.
Can I narrow my search of organizations by province?
Yes, we recommend filtering by province as some of the categories will have long lists if you don’t.
If I need forms from several different provinces will I have access to them?
Yes, we advise filtering down to only the provinces you need to make you search easier, but you do have full access to Notified Right’s entire library if you need it.
What information do I need to set up a profile?
How much information you provide in your profile is entirely up to you. We collect only basic information about yourself and the deceased such as name, address, phone number and date of death that is used to auto-populate letter templates in order to save you time. If you choose not to complete your profile on Notified Right you can still use the online library to build a checklist. You will just need to fill in this information on each of the letter templates manually after downloading.
Can I complete or make corrections to the profile after I’ve already started?
You will have access to make changes to your profile whenever you’re logged in. If you choose not to complete your profile before building your checklist you can still do it at any time before downloading your letter templates.
Is my personal information and that of the deceased secure on your site?
Notified Right takes great care in securing your information and uses an independently verified SSL Certificate to encrypt personal information.
Do you ever share profile information with other organizations?
No. Notified Right never provides your profile information to other organizations.
Can I purchase a membership to Notified Right for a friend?
Absolutely. A gift membership to Notified Right is a thoughtful way to show your condolences during a difficult time. While any gesture will surely be appreciated by those grieving, this is a very unique sympathy gift that will provide far more value than flowers.
When will the gift membership be received?
The purchaser can choose to print the gift certificate immediately, have it emailed to themselves, or to the have the membership certificate emailed directly to the recipient.
What is the refund policy for gift memberships?
If a gift membership was not used within 90 days of purchase we would be happy to provide a refund to the person who purchased it.
How long does a gift membership last?
Gift memberships last for one year from the date the person receiving the gift first creates their account.
What if I have questions or need help during the process?

What if Notified Right doesn’t have a form that I need?
Please contact us if you are a Notified Right member who is having trouble finding an organization. Hyperlink to contact page. We would be happy to track down the contact information of a Canadian organization for you and will do our best to locate any forms that are required as well. Usually it takes two to three business days after receiving a request for us to email you with this information.
What if the information for one of the organizations is wrong?
Please let us know if you find that we have provided incorrect information in our library. Our team of researchers works hard to keep the library up to date so if a process has changed or any of the information provided is wrong we want to correct it ASAP.
What if I need more help than Notified Right can provide?
Our online tool is very easy to use and we can provide additional support via email and phone if you encounter any problems. However, if you do not feel that an online tool is right for you then you may be interested in hiring a Certified Executor Advisor, or in the services provided by Peacehold. We are not affiliated with these organizations but want you to know there are options during this difficult time.
